The nation’s most wide open college football conference, the Big 12, will be heading to a bit of a new network broadcast wise in 2025 for certain games as TNT/HBO MAX continues to enter the chat in the sport.
TNT, the broadcast network, and HBO MAX, are both part of Warner Bros. Discovery. TNT, along with TBS and TruTV, have been partners for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for years, teaming up with CBS Sports (Paramount) to televise every game of March Madness. TNT televised two College Football Playoff contests in 2024- SMU at Penn State and Clemson at Texas – with the rest televised by rights holder ESPN.
TNT joins the CW as a recent entry broadcast partner-wise to college football. The CW televised certain Atlantic Coast Conference games in 2024.
These games feature two of what are expected to be the better teams in the Big 12 this season, but we aren’t sure that these match-ups will be compelling.
Texas Tech is a trendy preseason pick to win the Big 12. Arizona State won it last season and advanced to the playoff. Arizona was expected to contend but fell on hard times. The Wildcats will be looking for a fresh start when Hawaii comes to town. Kent State, which will travel to Lubbock to face the Red Raiders, is one of the worst teams in college football and that probably won’t change as the school fired its head coach midway through the offseason. Texas State, though, took the Sun Devils to the wire last year. The potential future Pac-12 member lost by a field goal to ASU in San Marcos, Texas, in 2024.
The Big 12 leads off the 2025 college football season on Aug. 23, 2025, when conference contenders Iowa State and Kansas State square off in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. That game will be televised by ESPN.
